How to make a QR code

Making a QR code takes less than a minute and you don't need any design skills. This guide walks you through it step by step, and explains how to make a QR code you can edit later — so a single printed code can point anywhere you want, forever.

Step 1: Choose what your QR code should do

A QR code can open almost anything: a website, a WiFi network, your contact card (vCard), a PDF, an Instagram profile, a WhatsApp chat, a coupon and more. Decide what you want people to reach when they scan.

If you're not sure, a website or link QR is the most flexible — you can always change where it points later if you make it dynamic (more on that below).

Step 2: Customize the design

Add your logo to the center, pick your brand colors, and choose the dot and corner styles. A branded QR code gets more scans because it looks trustworthy and on-brand.

Don't worry about breaking the scan — good generators use high error correction, so a centered logo stays reliably scannable.

Step 3: Download and share it

Download your QR code as PNG or JPG for screens and most printing, or as a vector (SVG/WebP) for large-format printing without quality loss.

Then put it anywhere: flyers, packaging, business cards, table tents, store windows, slides or your website.

Make it dynamic so you can edit it later

A static QR code is fixed forever — if the link changes, you have to reprint it. A dynamic QR code points to a short URL you control, so you can change the destination anytime without reprinting, and track every scan.

Dynamic codes are the better choice for anything you print, because plans, links and campaigns change. With QR by Elevate Links, your dynamic QR codes also never expire.

Frequently asked questions

Is it free to make a QR code?

Yes. You can make a QR code for free, including dynamic ones with a short URL and scan counter, and they never expire. Paid plans add unlimited codes, your logo and analytics.

Can I edit a QR code after printing it?

Only if it's a dynamic QR code. Dynamic codes point to a short URL you can edit anytime, so you change the destination without reprinting.

What format should I download?

PNG or JPG for screens and standard printing; SVG or WebP (vector) for large-format printing so it stays sharp at any size.
